Charlie’s Snow Day Adventure

Last week (March 1), we had a ton of snow here in LaGrange. We started our contemporary service, no snow. When we let out an hour later, 6 inches. It was wild! Charlie loved playing in the snow, and we got it on video. Check out Charlie’s Snow Day Adventures!

Charlie’s Top 5, Painting The Bathroom, and Sunday Recap

Hey everybody! First off, I just wanted to share with you Charlie’s “Top 5” funniest things he said/did today.
#1- When I dropped him off at Sunday School, his class was singing “Zacchaeus Was A Wee Little Man.” This is one of his favorite songs. We sing it every night before he goes to bed. I asked him to tell the class what Jesus told Zacchaeus. Charlie responded, “Zacchaeus, you come down. I want to eat you.” Yep, he’s a preacher’s kid.
#2- His teacher told me after class that he then spent the first ten minutes of class wandering around the classroom telling everybody that he was a bear, he was hungry, and looking for things to eat.
#3- This afternoon, it was windy and Charlie and I were flying kites in the front yard. He asked to hold the handle part. He promptly gave it back to me and said, “Here, you fly it. I’ll stand here and be in charge.” I’m still laughing about that one.
#4- Charlie wanted to bust out our metal detector this afternoon and look for buried treasure. HIs idea of treasure and mine are different, however. I asked him what kind of treasure he wanted to find, and he said, “Worms, snakes, and slimy things.”
#5- While we were in the backyard, Charlie and I were running. He faceplanted and started really crying. I picked him up and asked him what hurt, and he said, “Nothing hurts” as he was squalling.

-Today was a great day at church. Our set list was All Because of Jesus by Fee, How Great Thou Art by Charlie Hall, Mighty to Save by Hillsong United, Everlasting God by Brenton Brown (performed by Tomlin), Stronger by Hillsong, and How He Loves by John Mark McMillan (performed by Kim Walker and Jesus Culture). Casey Darnell, who led worship for our Disciple Now, really turned me on to Stronger. It is a great song. Thanks Case!

-This past weekend, my wife was in Douglasville taking care of her mom, who recently had surgery. She’s doing great, by the way! While she was gone, my parents were here to help take care of Charlie. I decided to surprise Katie by painting the bathroom while she was gone. Thanks Mama and Daddy for all the help! Here’s some pics of the new and improved bath:

Happy Hoppers

My parents were here helping take care of Charlie while Katie was in Douglasville taking care of her mom. Karen is doing great by the way. Sore, but great. For lunch on Thursday, I met my parents and Charlie at Happy Hoppers. Happy Hoppers is like a local version of Monkey Joes. Its a big open space with tons of inflatables for the kids to play on. Charlie had a great time…he calls it Baby Hoppers by the way. While we were there, he asked for a treat they sold called “Wormz N’ Dirt.” It was a cup of crushed Oreos with gummy worms in it. 100% boy! Here’s a picture of us at Happy Hoppers:

Lost In Cyberspace

I’ve been posting very regularly, but those posts must have been getting lost in cyber space. 😉 Just an update on our new service- yesterday was our hiighest attended Sunday yet. We’ve been meeting for about 8 weeks now, and yesterday we had around 540 people. We’ve had 12 people join our church in the past 3 weeks. Wow! God is doing some amazing things right now. If you haven’t come and worshipped with us yet, you need to come soon. If you weren’t there yesterday morning, our set list was: Awesome Is The Lord Most High, Blessed Be Your Name, Everything Glorious, Famous One, How Marvelous, and Jesus Paid It All.

We have great students in our ministry!

  • Last night we had our Ecuador Share share service. First off, our crowd was off the chain. We had between 250 and 275 people there last night. WOW!
  • We tried to gear everything around missions last night. Our worship team played “Where The Streets Have No Name” by U2 and we had video footage of the mission trip in the background. It was powerful.
  • We are producing a video of the service. I hope to get it online by next week sometime. Make sure you check our student ministry page to watch it.
  • We had 8 students from our Ecuador team share last night: Allison, Ashlee, Catherine, Collin, Holly, Michael, Parker, and Taylor. They did an amazing job. I am blessed to have such a great group of students who #1 are willing to give up their spring break to do missions, and #2 share about their experience on a Wednesday night to get other students fired up about missions. What they said last night had 10 times the impact of anything I could have said. After all, I’m “paid” to encourage people to do missions. They are not. And to hear how their personal walk with Jesus was impacted by the trip was awesome. I’m ready to run through a wall right now.
  • Oh, and here’s a picture of me kissing a cooked guinea pig while in Ecuador. I hope my wife doesnt see this or she’ll never kiss me again. 🙂

Discipline and other Tuesday thoughts

  • My project in my personal life right now is discipline. Spiritual discipline and physical discipline. Spiritually, my goal is to get up earlier and do my quiet times early in the morning. I’ve come to realize how important it is to have your quiet time early. Before I interact with my wife. Before I interact with my son. Before I amswer the first phone call. Before I reply to the first email. Before I talk with the lady behind the counter at the gas station. Before I do any of those things, I need to have spent time with Jesus and have him shining through me. Physically, it’s really simple. I need to eat better and exercise. Although there’s nothing better than a #1 value sized with sweet tea at Chick-Fil-A, that’s not good for me. It’s back to salads and water during the week, and a little trash-eating is permissible on the weekends. 🙂
  • And I want my faithful blog readers to help keep me accountable with this. If you read my blog, ask me how I’ve been eating and if I’ve been doing my quiet times early. I promise to tell you the truthful answer.
  • I am excited about what I’m doing after work- I’m fishing a Tuesday Night Bass Tournament on West Point Lake. If we can manage to get one “kicker” fish (5 lbs or up) I feel we’ll be taking home some money. Pray for big fish tonight.
  • Katie took some pictures of the painting I did and will post them on her blog today. Be sure to go check them out.
  • Well, back to work- more coming later today!

Thursday Morning Download

  • God is STILL doing amazing things through our Ecuador team. Several of them got invited to share with their Spanish classes about sharing Jesus in Ecuador.  All of them are telling people about their missions experience. All of them are getting students stoked for the trip next year. I can’t tell you how many students have told me, “I’m going next year!” We might just take 60 people next year. Seriously.
  • Last night’s service was awesome. God was really there. We did a new song called Praise And Adore by a group named Wavorly. Go download it on iTunes. It’s a good song.
  • Next week we’re doing a really cool service called Silent Worship. The whole thing will be led from the. It’s going to be really neat- invite a friend!
  • If you didn’t know, Katie and Charlie are at the beach (I’m so jealous! But I’m going to meet them Monday.) While I’ve been at the house by myself this week, I’ve been trying to get some projects done. I’ve already painted our dining room a light blue color from Sherwin Williams called Tradewinds. (Don’t worry- Katie picked out the color beforehand!) It looks awesome. It is so relaxing and neat looking. Right now, I’m working on painting our kitchen a burgundy red color. It’s just hard painting around stuff in the kitchen. I’ll try to post pictures soon.
  • I even bought plants for our front porch. If HGTV doesnt call me about a tv special, I’m gonna be upset.
  • I’m going fishing again today. Could lightining strike twice in the same place and could I catch another big one? I’m going with Joel Forbus, so I probably won’t catch anything. God will look down and see his Auburn hat and curse our boat. 🙂
  • Make sure you sign up ASAP for our parenting conference that is taking place in a couple of weeks. I’ll talk more about it next week, but it’s going to be great!
