Brilliant Minds

So I’m sitting at  Starbucks in Cartersville, GA. Cartersville having a Starbucks is only slightly less amusing than LaGrange having a Starbucks. I’m curently at a retreat at Redtop Mountain State Park for the Georgia Baptist Convention’s Youth Ministry Network Coaches. While it sounds complicated, basically we’re guys scattered throughout the state trained by the convention to help train and mentor youth pastors in the state and help expand the influence of student ministries in the state. It has been beautiful to have all these brilliant minds in one room. It is exciting to feel the enthusiasm these people have for impacting the lives of the student generation. I’m loving the week. Everytime God provides me an opportunity to get away from my ministry setting, he always seems to give me extra vision and new ideas for stuent ministry. More to come later……

Last series…

The series I just wrapped up was quite the doozy. In fact, I felt quite beat up when it was all said and done. The series was entitled, “Trilogy: A 2 week series on our 3 in1 God.” Try explaining the Trinity to a room full of junior and senior high students. The thing is, I felt really burdened to do this series. Check out this passage that God showed me in Jeremiah 9:23-24. Those verses say, “This is what the LORD says: Let not the wise man boast of his wisdom or the strong man boast of his strength or the rich man boast of his riches, but let him who boasts boast about this: that he understands and knows me.” Knowing and understanding God. I know that we won’t fully understand and know God this side of eternity, but do we consistently try to deepen our intimacy with Him? The great thing about our big God is that he is knowable. He is relational. Are we spending enough time to truly get to know Him?

Numero Uno

Alright, so I finally got a blog. I feel like I have now become cool. I feel like I need some Starbucks in my hand while I write this. I got inspired to finally start one after I saw how cool my buddy Russ Butcher’s blog was. Russ, you are the wind beneath my wings. As much as I like technology and gadgety stuff, I feel somewhat out of my element with this whole blog thing. Hopefully I’ll figure it out.
